Did You Know?

Did you know you can donate as little as $10 per month to Hemophilia Ontario? Your monthly donation will go towards our programs and services such as:

Educational Events: members learn the latest in health treatment advances and support one another through social
interaction and inclusion.

Financial Assistance: the organization provides monetary assistance for medications not covered by OHIP, orthopedic devices, emergency travel to medical appointments, and other circumstances directly related to their bleeding disorder.

Member Support: the organization provides our membership with individualized support, including patient advocacy, as well as opportunities for members to connect and share lived experience.

Wanakita Summer Camp: the organization offers an integrated camp experience where children can safely enjoy camp activities with unaffected children. With the help of hemophilia treatment centre nurses, the children learn medical independence, and to self-infuse their missing clotting factor.

Pinecrest Adventures Camp: the organization offers a fellowship camp where affected children and their siblings can safely enjoy camp activities, build leadership skills, and develop a sense of community, all while providing much needed parental/caregiver respite. With the help of hemophilia treatment centre nurses, the children learn medical independence, self-awareness, and to self-infuse their missing clotting factor.

Family Camps: the organization provides an opportunity for families to come together and share their lived experiences and health concerns, while gaining knowledge through specifically designed education sessions that relate to living with a bleeding disorder.

Plantables! New Fundraiser!

We’re excited to announce that Hemophilia Ontario has teamed up with Plantables in an effort to fundraise just by gardening!

Plantables are an exciting new startup based in Forest, Ontario that grow healthy, hardy and happy fruit and vegetable plants and ship them to arrive at your door exactly when they need to go into the ground. That means that no matter how busy you are, how unsuccessful you’ve been at growing plants before or how many little hands want to help out, you’ll be able to grow brag-worthy fruits and veggies in no time. All you have to do is pick what plants you want to grow, choose when you want them delivered and wait for your box of garden-ready plants to arrive on your doorstep.

All you have to do is go to www.plantables.ca. If you want to buy garden-ready fruit and vegetable plants for your garden, make sure you enter the code HemophiliaOntarioPlants at the checkout.

We’re really excited to be launching a fundraiser that involves growing healthy fruits and veggies and spending time as a family instead of selling unhealthy snacks door-to-door, and we can’t wait to see how much we all can raise.

Thank you for all of your support!

We Stand in Solidarity with Black Lives Matter to

Resist Anti-Black Racism & Anti-Black Violence

As an organization that supports all people living with an inherited bleeding disorder in Ontario,  Hemophilia Ontario acknowledges that our members who are Black, Indigenous or People of Colour are experiencing an overwhelming amount of pain right now.

Our financial assistance program exists to support you if needed.

Limited Home Delivery of Product to Patients

Limited Home Delivery of Product to Patients at high risk of COVID-19
Approved by Ontario Ministry of Health

Please be aware that the Ontario Ministry of Health has approved temporary home delivery of product to people with inherited bleeding disorders at highest risk of COVID-19 infection. The following criteria outlined by the Ministry of Health will determine if you are eligible:

  • If you are on home treatment
  • Do not have someone to pick up product from the hospital for you
  • If you suffer from immune deficiency (such as in the case of some who are affected by HIV/AIDS)
  • Are 65 years of age or older
  • Have underlying conditions preventing you from using public transportation or going to hospital transfusion services to pick up product.

While we are disappointed with the limited eligibility criteria announced by the Ministry of Health, we are happy that some of our most vulnerable members may no longer be unnecessarily exposed to the higher risk of COVID-19 infection at hospitals.

Hemophilia Ontario will be updating you on this important development as new information becomes available. If the information above applies to you we encourage you to reach out to your Hemophilia Treatment Centre with any questions. If you have any questions for us you can reach out to Bojan Pirnat at bpirnat@hemophilia.on.ca.
